Bertie lives in Africa, among the plains, within the boundaries of the fence line. He is forbidden to cross the fence line but one day he does, to save a helpless cub from the prowling outback. But this lion is special and Bertie grows to love his lion cub. But little does Bertie know something terrible is about to happen, that will separate Bertie and the white lion. Soon he finds himself in London at a boarding school, the war threatening to engulf them in its trauma and Bertie finds himself amidst the marching soldiers. Will Bertie ever find his white lion again?
