Olly's Brother Matt wants to go to Africa and to make the children laugh in the orphanage and help them forget about the trauma of the war. But Olly and her mum want him to stay and go to university.

Hero is a swallow and he has to make the tiring journey to Africa. He must fly with the other swallows there for the winter, but he knows little about the dangers that lie ahead.

Olly is determined to fulfill her brothers promise of looking after his swallows and will do whatever it takes to keep them safe. but she is also troubled by her brother's decision. these three separate stories are interlocked in a powerful way that truly shows some of the horrors of war and the spirit within people.
